Showtime is sticking with its two hit summer shows, Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan. The acclaimed dramas will be back for third seasons next year.
The network took to social media to break the news to the shows’ fans directly. Both shows will feature 12 episodes for their third seasons, each.
Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber as the title character, a skilled Hollywood fixer. Jon Voight is among the show’s co-stars and has earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama.
Masters of Sex is the true story of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, who broke down walls with their study of human sexuality. Michael Sheen plays Masters and Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan stars as Johnson. Allison Janney also won an Emmy this past weekend for her guest role on the series.
"Both Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex are quintessentially Showtime: bold, provocative, premium television with production values at the top of the food chain," Showtime Networks president David Nivens told The Hollywood Reporter.
"These acclaimed shows are filled with complex and interesting characters and settings that will no doubt give audiences compelling television to invest in for seasons to come," he added.
Masters of Sex averages 4 million viewers in total, when adding in On Demand and DVR viewings. Ray Donovan averages 5 million viewers.
As the two shows wrap up their second seasons, Showtime is preparing for Homeland’s fourth season. A new trailer for that show was released this week.
