The USA Basketball team made the first round of cuts this week to whittle the pool of available players down to 16. The three players released were John Wall, Bradley Beal and Paul Millsap.

The remaining players have the next couple of days off before training camp kicks into gear again next week in Chicago. During that next session, the 12-man roster will be finalized, and this chosen dozen will leave for Spain (the site of the FIBA World Cup) on Aug. 23, reports ESPN.

The announcement of these cuts was supposed to come on Saturday (one day after the team scrimmaged). After Paul George suffered a gruesome leg injury during the exhibition, the announcement was delayed until Tuesday, according to Sporting News.

The remaining players competing for these spots are: Derrick Rose, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, James Harden, Klay Thompson, Kyle Korver, Chandler Parsons, DeMar DeRozan, Gordon Hayward, Kevin Durant, Kenneth Faried, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Mason Plumlee and Andre Drummond.

Rose, Curry, Irving, Harden, Thompson, Durant, Faried and Davis appear to have roster spots assured.

Lillard, Korver, Parsons, DeRozan, Hayward, Cousins, Plumlee and Droummand are likely going to be competing for the final four spots on the team.
