Sofia Vergara is attempting to shut down critics of her ‘pedestal’ skit with the president of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Bruce Rosenblum, at the 66th Annual Primetime Emmys on Monday evening.

The skit featured Rosenblum delivering his obligatory – usually pretty boring – speech, with the Modern Family actress literally spinning on a pedestal to make the speech more bearable. The skit immediately got slammed on Twitter, with people saying she was treated like a prop and that it objectified her.

Vergara, known for her sense of humor, told Entertainment Weekly after the show, “I think it’s absolutely the opposite.”

She added, “It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself. I think it’s ridiculous that somebody started this—I know who she was—who has no sense of humor [and should] lighten up a little bit.”
