Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is now officially the new owner of the Los Angeles Clippers.
First reported by Bloomberg, after some back and forth with Donald Sterling and his attorneys, a judge issued his final ruling that the sale of the team could go through. A deal was then finalized which made Ballmer the new owner.
NBC News noted that after the ruling was announced the NBA issued the following statement.
"The transaction in which Steve Ballmer purchased the Los Angeles Clippers closed today following the entry of an order by a California court confirming the authority of Shelly Sterling, on behalf of the Sterling Family Trust, to sell the team."
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned the former owner from the league for life after he was heard in a phone conversation making racist remarks. His lawyers vowed then to fight any sale of the basketball team.
In what seemed a never-ending battle, Ballmer was finally able to purchase the team for $2 billion. The 58-year-old’s estimated worth is upwards of $20 billion.
He first reached an agreement in May to buy the team.
