The Texas Rangers placed starting pitcher Yu Darvish on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation, retroactive to Sunday. The right-hander felt tightness Monday while playing catch.
Darvish is 10-7 this season with a 3.06 ERA. Darvish is making his second stint on the disabled list, his first being at the beggening of the year due to neck stiffness according to The Star Telegram.
Darvish threw 113 pitches in a loss to the Houston Astros along with allowing six runs, five earned, in four innings according to ESPN.
The Rangers have used the DL an astonishing 24 times this year, the most in the majors. The Rangers also have an MLB-leading 14 players on the DL.
Pitcher Robbie Ross has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, and left-hander Alex Claudio has been called up from Round Rock. Claudio will become the Rangers 56th different player this year, a club record, and the 17th rookie which leads the majors. He will also be the teams’ 34th pitcher this season.
