Tony Shaloub, known for his three time Emmy winning performance in the USA series Monk, will be joining the seventh season of Showtime’s Nurse Jackie as Dr. Bernard Prince.
As noted by the Boston Herald, Shaloub’s character is an ER doctor with stellar report with his patience as well as his boss, Anna Deavere Smith’s Gloria Akalitus. He will also extend a branch of friendship to the titular character Jackie.
The Boston Herald notes that the series – which stars The Sopranos' Edie Falco (who, according to USA Today, just earned her fifth Emmy nomation for outstanding lead actress in a comedy), Merritt Wever, Dominic Fumusa, Betty Gilpin, Ruby Jerins, Stephen Wallem, Mackenzie Aladjem, and Peter Facinelli – is run by Clyde Phillips and produced by Tom Straw, Richie Jackson, Liz Flahive and Caryn Mandabach.
The show is the property of both the Showtime network and Lionsgate.
As noted by USA Today, Shaloub’s addition to the cast might be due to the fact that cast regular Peter Facinelli will be leaving the show to join NBC’s fall drama Odyssey, as we reported .
While most known for his work on Monk, Shaloub recently was on a short-lived television show called We Are Men (as noted by the A.V. Club) and voiced Splinter in the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film produced by Michael Bay. We recently reviewed the film, which can be found here.
As noted by Entertainment Weekly, Nurse Jackie will return sometime in 2015.
