Today is World Cat Day and what better way to celebrate our feline companions than to look back on the ten most famous cats in movie history. It’s hard to narrow down a list of cats when there have been so many famous cats, from Simba the sweet lion cub who would be King to Garfield himself. From big to small, cats everywhere get our attention in multiple ways.

Often in movies, cats serve as loveable pets, from either taking over the world to protecting the home from a newly adopted mouse, to eating everything in plain sight and being lazy. In addition to feature films, cats also have taken over Youtube videos, where people can watch cats do the craziest things.

While they had a small role in the film, the Siamese cats were instrumental in creating havoc for poor Lady. They are the classic Siamese cats, being sneaky and causing trouble as Lady tries in vain to keep the house in order.

From the movie Cats & Dogs, Mr. Tinkles is a cat bent on taking over the world and making humans allergic to all dogs. In this scene, he is seen with other cats plotting before a maid comes in, calling his name loudly as the other cats snicker. It’s hard to be a cat bent on world domination with a name like Mr. Tinkles.

From Stuart Little, Snowbell is a cat who has to contend with the fact that his family has adopted a mouse named Stuart as their son. Snowbell at first is filled with contempt for the newest member of the house, until he eventually warms up to Stuart.

Mr. Bigglesworth is the pet of Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movie series. Originally, he had hair, but after losing his hair while escaping with Dr. Evil in a cryogenic capsule, he lost all of it. It’s amusing how cats who are supposed to be seen as conniving are often the ones with the silliest names.

It’s hard to choose just one cat from The Aristocats movie. When a wealthy woman’s cat, Duchess, and her three kittens are catnapped, an alley cat named O’Malley comes to their rescue and he eventually falls in love with Duchess as they try to return home. In the scene below, O’Malley introduces Duchess to his friend Scat Cat, who sings a song to them called, “Everybody Wants To Be A Cat.”
