This week’s edition deals with serious movies, specifically an action, a drama and a thriller. Outcast focuses on an assassination attempt on the son of a murdered Chinese emperor and how the heir’s sister and a weary crusader try to thwart it. Reclaim follows an American couple who uncover an underground scam and White Bird in a Blizzard chronicles how a young girl’s life is turned upside down when her mother suddenly disappears. All three movies have serious A-list Hollywood celebrities backing up their serious plotlines. In addition, each movie’s trailer gives potential audiences a glimpse, but not too much information that it spoils the movie. Plus, all three films have thoughtful undertones mixed with some action and adventure. If moviegoers want to see movies that make them think about how each is going to end, then these motion pictures are perfect.
Outcast is an action movie starring Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen, who starred in the 2002 and 2005 Star Wars prequels. The plot follows the son of a murdered Chinese emperor and how his uncle is planning his death to take the throne for himself. A shell-shocked warrior named Arken (Christensen,) the heir’s sister and Gallain (Cage,) an outlaw, try to stop the murder. The movie’s trailer displays how the young heir’s sister implores Arken to help her stop her uncle and how they look for more help and convince Gallain, an ex-crusader turned thief, whose mind has been broken from the death he’s witnessed in battles past, to help them save the boy who is destined to be a great leader. The fight scenes in the trailer are powerful and Cage gives off an inner pain that will compel moviegoers to go see this movie. It opens in theaters Friday, February 27, 2015.
Reclaim is a thriller starring John Cusack, Ryan Phillippe, Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver and Luis Guzmán. The film centers around an American couple, who discover a high-stakes underground con while traveling abroad. In order to expose the truth, they put their lives on the line to get back to the U.S. and to save their newly adopted daughter. The trailer is chock full of riveting action as the couple discovers their adoptive daughter missing while on vacation and how they fight tooth and nail to stay alive and get her back unharmed. It opens in theaters on Friday, September 19.
White Bird in a Blizzard is a dramatic thriller starring Divergent’s Shailene Woodley, Eva Green, who stars in the Showtime Original Television series Penny Dreadful, American Horror Story’s Angela Bassett, ex-Law & Order: SVU star Christopher Meloni and Precious star Gabourey Sidibe. The plot revolves around the close mother-daughter relationship between teenager Kat Connor (Woodley) and her mother, Eve (Green.) They are best friends and have no secrets from each other, but when her mother fails to call her one morning, Kat’s worst fears are realized as her mother has mysteriously disappeared. In her quest to find her, Kat’s life is turned upside down as she learns things about her mother that will forever change her life. The trailer shows the deep bond that Woodley and Green portray between these two characters. It also shows the anguish Kat and her father Brock (Meloni) experience when her mother goes missing. A web of lies and secrets will keep moviegoers on the edge of their seats as the truth behind Eve’s disappearance is revealed. It opens in theaters on Thursday, September 25.
