True Detective will return to HBO next summer, network programming director Michael Lombardo recently revealed, while adding the second series won't be quite as dark as the first.
Lombardo spoke at the Edinburgh TV Festival and explained a little about the second season, while at the same time remaining vague on a lot of details, The Hollywood Reporter notes. "We're going to start shooting in September for it to air next summer," he explained.
The second season has "different characters, a different setting. It's set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that's probably all I'm allowed to say."
The network executive added that he's already excited after having read through the scripts for the first two episodes and revealed that Cary Fukunaga will not be directing every episode again. Rather the second series will have a few different directors.
Lombardo (right in the picture) also told the crowd that creator Nic Pizzolatto wasn't making the second series of True Detective as dark as the first, Huffington Post UK reports. "It's still dark," he noted. "It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride."
While no casting confirmation has come yet for season two's cast, it has been speculated that Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss and Vince Vaughn would be starring in the series. Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch might also be in the other two starring roles.
