The New York Yankees have placed catcher Brian McCann on the seven-day concussion disabled list.
According to CBS Sports McCann was injured during the sixth inning of the Yankees game on Friday night against the Indians.
After the game a neurologist ruled that McCann had a mild concussion, according to The Sports Network.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi told ESPN New York that McCann thought he jammed his jaw after he got hit by a foul ball.
“Then talking to him later when he came in in the sixth, he felt he was a little foggy.”
Girardi made the decision to take McCann out of the game after McCann said he wanted to keep playing.
When players are placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list, the player has 14 days to return before being placed on the regular 15-day disabled list, according to MLB.com.
The Yankees recalled Austin Romine from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Francisco Cervelli started the Yankees game on Saturday.
This season, McCann is batting .238 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in his first season with the Yankees after signing a five-year, $85 million deal this off season, as we previously reported.
