New York Yankee catcher Brian McCann was put on the seven-day concussion list on Saturday.

McCann was hurt during Friday’s game against the Cleveland Indians. In the third inning of the game he was hit in the facemask by a foul ball. McCann stayed in the game until the sixth inning and Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that McCann was feeling cloudy, according to the Associated Press. A neurologist examined him on Saturday and he was put on the DL after that. McCann will have to pass Major League Baseball’s concussion protocol before he is activated.

"He talked about his jaw," Girardi said of McCann’s injury. "He thought his jaw got jammed. Then talking to him later when he came in in the sixth, he felt he was a little foggy. I said, 'You're out.'"

The loss of McCann isn’t good news for the Yankees as he is having a good season. He is hitting .238 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs this season, according to ESPN. Austin Romine has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill in for McCann.

The Yankees have given second baseman Brian Roberts his unconditional release. He was cut on August 1 to make room for Stephen Drew. Roberts was hitting .237 and had five homeruns and 21 RBIs when he was cut.
