BBC announced on Thursday that a scene in the upcoming Saturday episode of Doctor Who which depicted a beheading will be edited out.

Two American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff, were reportedly recently beheaded by ISIS on video, Variety reports.

A BBC spokesman said, "In light of recent news events, we have made an edit to episode three out of respect."

The BBC is moving proactively in an effort to likely avoid any controversy after the start of a marketing stint meant to advertise the release of season one of Fox's Sleepy Hollow.

The campaign was called "National Headless Day" and fans would collect and share e-cards celebrating the series and the Headless Horseman. Unfortunately it began shortly after news broke ISIS had executed Sotloff.

20th Century Fox and the marketing team apologized, with a statement on Wednesday. "The tragic news of Steven Sotloff's death hit the Web as the email was being sent ... Our deepest sympathies are with him and his family, and we don't take the news lightly."
