Joan Rivers is being brought out of her coma but the drama continues.
According to The New York Daily News, Rivers was brought out of her coma with her daughter, Melissa Rivers, by her side. A source tells the Daily News that it will take until Tuesday to fully wake Rivers and even if she is conscious all is not necessarily well.
“There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair," the source said.
This new development has Rivers' family mulling a lawsuit against Yorkville Endoscopy. This was where Rivers underwent an apparently botched throat surgery Thursday that sent her into cardiac and respiratory arrest. Rivers was then rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma.
Rivers' daughter released a statement saying "We are keeping our fingers crossed." She asked that “everyone keep her in your thoughts and prayers," and said that Rivers was "resting comfortably."
But sources close to the two say that Melissa's optimism is a facade. The source said Melissa Rivers is “totally hysterical and is at a loss for what to do [because] they won’t know the extent of the damage until Tuesday at the earliest.”
The source also revealed that Rivers' quality of life means a lot to the comedienne. The source said Rivers would want a "full and active life," adding, "[She] would never want to be a burden on anyone.”
