Blanchett is no stranger to the Sydney Theatre Company as reported by us a few years ago and it is not a surprise considering her husband, Andrew Upton, is the artistic director.
Rush on the other hand has not worked with the Sydney Theatre Company since 1993 when he performed in Oleanna opposite Blanchett.
"Cate and I have been talking to him for years. Obviously Cate worked with him on Oleanna and on Elizabeth. They're very old friends actually," Upton said according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
Sydney Theatre Company's production of King Lear will be directed by Neil Armfield.
"Geoffrey Rush and Neil Armfield have been friends and collaborators for well over 30 years - one of Australia's most enduring and revered partnerships. Now, in a landmark production, this iconic actor and visionary director bring us a King Lear like no other," Sydney Theatre Company's website explains.
Geoffrey Rush goes mad as King Lear November 24, 2015 through January 9.
