The Houston Astros parted ways with manager Bo Porter on Monday and are bringing in Tom Lawless to be the interim manager.

The 59-79 team claimed that moving on from Porter is due to a desire to move the Astros in a "new direction," The Associated Press reports. The team would also like to present a "united message throughout the entire organization."

In addition to Porter, who has been with the team two years, bench coach Dave Trembley was also shown the door.

The front office was quick to try and dispel any notion the team's poor record lead to Porter's firing, despite the team holding the second-worst record in the MLB. "I recognize that our win-loss record is largely a product of an organizational strategy for which I am responsible," General Manager Jeff Luhnow said.

"Rather, I made this decision because I believe we need a new direction in our clubhouse."

With Porter out, Lawless will be the interim manager. He recently was the interim manager for the Oklahoma City RedHawks while manager Tony DeFrancesco was on medical leave, according to MLB.com.

Adam Everett, who has worked with the Astros before, was hired to be the new bench coach.
