Howard Stern, who delivered the eulogy at Joan Rivers’ funeral over the weekend, spoke about being asked to do it by her daughter, Melissa Rivers, on his radio show Monday.

Stern said he wouldn’t turn it down, but didn’t think he would be able to do her life justice.

The America’s Got Talent judge and veteran shock jock said he received a phone call from Melissa a “day and a half” before the funeral.

"I said to her, 'Melissa, you are asking the wrong guy.' I said, 'I'll do it, I would do anything for Joan, I will do anything for you,’” ABC News reports.

Rivers’ funeral was also attended by Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick, Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters. It was held at a Reform Jewish synagogue in New York City.

"She said, 'No, I want you to do it. It was a lot of pressure because I wanted to come through for Melissa and come through for Joan,” he added. "I didn't want to say the wrong thing. I was in touch with Louis C.K. and he said, 'You know, Joan really deserves a great send off.

He said something very profound. He said, 'Joan was like an aunt or a best friend who could make everything better.' Even in times after say 9/11 or the country just seems to be going down or things just seem to be bad, when she would crack a joke ... you didn't feel so alone."
