We all know by now that Hugh Jackman gave Joan Rivers a proper send-off by performing at her funeral, just as she wanted. Now the Wolverine star is speaking out about that memorable day.
Jackman appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and called her funeral “uplifting” but also “funny.” He also described it as an “appropriate send-off” for an icon.
He revealed she had actually approached him years ago about being the one to sing her the song “Quiet Please, There's a Lady on Stage” from a Broadway play she saw him in called The Boy From Oz.
"She had planned everything out," Jackman told Fallon, E! Online reports, adding he “felt honored” to carry out her wishes.
“It's a beautiful celebration of a woman and it's for her. The entire audience in the synagogue got up and started clapping and cheering. The whole thing was very uplifting, very touching and moving, but very funny,” he said.
As we previously reported, Rivers’ friend Howard Stern delivered the eulogy, which he described on his radio show.
“Even in times after say 9/11 or the country just seems to be going down or things just seem to be bad, when she would crack a joke ... you didn't feel so alone,” he said of the late Rivers.
