Restricted free-agent defenseman John Moore agreed to a deal with the New York Rangers on Thursday.

According to ESPN, the deal is for one year and is worth $850,500, which would have been Moore’s original qualifying offer. The deal isn’t exactly what Moore wanted. He was looking for more money. He was reportedly looking for something between $1.2 million and $1.4 million, the New York Post notes.

Moore wasn’t eligible for arbitration. He had to wait until Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello, and Chris Kreider who filed for arbitration to sign deals. They signed deals in August. Those deals took up almost $11 million in cap space. The Rangers now have less than $500,000 in cap space left with the signing of Moore, according to USA Today.

Moore was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round of the 2009 draft. The Rangers got him in a trade that sent Marian Gaborik to the Blue Jackets in April 2013. Last season he had a career-best four goals and 15 points, according to NHL.com. He helped the Rangers make it to the Stanley Cup Finals by having two assists and a plus-2 rating in 21 playoff games. In 173 career games Moore has seven goals and 29 points.

In addition to signing Moore, the Rangers also signed free-agent forward Ryan Malone on Thursday. Malone’s deal is a two-way deal that is worth $700,000 with an AHL salary of $100,000, ESPN reports. Malone, who was arrested for a DUI and cocaine possession this summer, has been participating in informal skates with the Rangers recently.
