Rookie defensive end Michael Sam was cut on Saturday by the St. Louis Rams and after clearing waivers, remains unsigned, leaving a question mark about his immediate future.
Sam almost made the final roster for the Rams, but eventually was cut as the team needed to reach 53 players. Head coach Jeff Fisher claims he was "pulling" for Sam to make the roster, but ultimately was beat out for a spot by an undrafted free agent.
He cleared waivers without any team stepping forward to snatch him up, making it possible the Rams would sign him to the practice squad. Well, USA Today reports, they did not. The team didn't sign any defensive ends to the 1o-player squad after keeping five on the roster.
Though for the moment no NFL teams appear ready to sign him to their roster, though future injuries could change that, there is one team interested, it just might not be in a league Sam is interested.
The Montreal Alouettes, who play in the Canadian Football League, have stepped forward and are looking to bring him aboard, NFL.com reports.
The team recently signed aging, veteran wide receiver Chad Johnson and currently hold Sam's rights, though there have been no indications he has contacted them.
