The new Pink Floyd album is coming this fall, albeit slightly later than previously expected.
Back in July, the album, titled The Endless River, was announced by David Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson. It was certainly unexpected to hear about the band’s first album in 20 years from a member’s wife, but she was right. The group later confirmed the news.
While Samson said Endless River would be out in October, the band has had to push it back to November. As announced today, the new album will be out on Nov. 10.
Gilmour and Nick Mason began working on the project last October, looking at outtakes from the 1993 sessions for 1994’s The Division Bell. For 20 years, that was considered the band’s last album, but Gilmour and Mason decided that these outtakes should be heard. “The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music, using the advantages of modern studio technology to create The Endless River,” the group said.
The new album is a tribute to Rick Wright, who died in 2008. His keyboards can be heard on the album, which is mostly instrumental. Samson did write new lyrics for a song called “Louder Than Words.”
In addition to standard CD and double-vinyl sets, there will also be a deluxe edition that adds a DVD version of the album in 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound. However, even the standard CD edition will be packaged in a hard cover book.
You can pre-order the album on iTunes or Amazon.
