Former Philadelphia Eagles safety Kurt Coleman signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday. His agent Blake Baratz announced the deal on Twitter.

The Chiefs currently have 53 players on their roster, which is the maximum number of players that can be on a roster. They will have to make a move to accommodate the signing of Coleman. There are four safeties currently on the Chiefs roster. However Coleman could be a backup to starters Husain Abdullah and Eric Berry, along with rookie Daniel Sorenson and Kelcie McCray, according to the Kansas City Star.

“Congratulations to my man @k4coleman on signing with the @KCChiefs,” Baratz wrote on Twitter. “Selfishly wanted him in MN, but great spot, great opportunity. NFL Life!”

Coleman entered the NFL in 2010 as a seventh-round pick by the Eagles. He played for the Eagles for three seasons before then Eagles coach Andy Reid left to become the coach of the Chiefs. Now he will be reunited with Reid. In April Coleman signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He was released by the Vikings on Saturday.

Coleman has played in 59 career games with 29 starts. He has 221 tackles, 11 passed defended, seven interceptions, and two forced fumbles, according to Chiefs Spin. His best season so far was in 2012. In 2012 he had 93 tackles, four defended passes, two interceptions, and a forced fumble in 14 starts.

The Chiefs haven’t confirmed signing Coleman officially yet as they still have to make a roster move to make room for Coleman.
