Despite Sean Saves The World’s lack of success, NBC will work with Sean Hayes again to develop a live sitcom. Not only will the show itself be broadcast live, but commercials in between will be live as well.
The project is called Hospitality and will be written by actor Chris Moynihan (Man Up, 100 Questions). Hayes and Todd Milliner’s Hazy Mills Productions will produce with Universal TV. According to Deadline, the story centers on a Manhattan hospital staff. It’s not clear if Hayes or Moynihan would take a role.
If Hospitality does reach the airways, it will be the latest project for Hazy Mills. The shingle also produces NBC’s Hollywood Game Night and TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland, notes The Hollywood Reporter. Grimm is also a Haley Mills production.
Live scripted television used to be a rarity, but since NBC’s The Sound of Music Live was a hit (at least with audiences), the peacock network has shown more interest in the concept. Peter Pan Live will air this winter on NBC and Fox is developing a live Grease. However, Hospitality will be different from all of those, since it will be a weekly series and the commercials will be live, too.
