Even with consideration that she may be the greatest tennis player alive, Serena Williams still proves to be a good sport. Moments after the 6-3, 6-3 victory that earned her an 18th Grand Slam title, Williams had the Arthur Ashe Stadium erupting in laughter after she confirmed that she would be buying rounds, according to Usa Today Sports.
By midnight, Williams and runner-up Caroline Wozniacki were seen having a night out in New York, about six hours after they cleared the court following the trophy presentation. In a post-match interview Wozniacki congratulated her “bestie." She said, “You’re an unbelievable friend...and you definitely owe drinks later.”
Williams and Wozniacki also met up with singer and actor Joe Jonas to celebrate.
After her Sept. 7 win, Williams has been declared the greatest American tennis player, male or female. “I never dreamed that I could be compared to Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova..I was just a kid with a dream and a racket living in Compton,” Williams said in a post-match press conference.
If Williams is able to continue to play at the level she has been playing at, she’ll be able to widen the gap. However, if her game falls off, her case for supremacy weakens, according to Forbes .
