Based on the novel written by James Dashner, The Maze Runner follows the story of a young man who mysteriously wakes up in a massive maze with no memory of how he got there as he discovers his purpose and the truth of what lies beyond the maze.

The Maze Runner stars Dylan O'Brien from MTV's Teen Wolf series.

"I think we made a really faithful adaptation, so if you're a fan of the book, a fan of the spirit of the book, it will be faithful up on the screen," O'Brien told the high school students according to Oak Leaves.

20th Century Fox is anticipating the franchise to be a huge success. The sequel, The Scorch Trials, has already started the pre-production film process in New Mexico.

"It's a bit of a race this time because we're cautiously optimistic, but we're feeling excited we're about to do something that's way more sophisticated, way more grown up, and really set up a saga here," director Wes Ball told BuzzFeed in an interview.
