The Simpsons just can't stop doing crossovers lately. This Fall alone, the Simpsons characters will be doing crossover episodes with both Family Guy and Futurama, as we've previously reported. Now, they're doing yet another crossover, but this time with themselves.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming 'Treehouse of Horror' episode of The Simpsons will feature the modern characters crossing paths with their crudely drawn selves from The Tracy Ullman Show.
Any Simpsons fan will know that the long running series first began as animated short segments on The Tracy Ullman Show, a sketch comedy show from 1987 to 1990. One of the sketches featured was The Simpsons, later given its own series that we know and love today.
The characters of the modern series were all there on The Tracy Ullman Show, but they were very crudely drawn, and most of the voices were pretty different from what they later evolved into.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the segment on this year's 'Treehouse of Horror' will be a parody of the film The Others, with the modern Simpsons being haunted by the Ullman Show era Simpsons. According to executive producer Al Jean, this will play on the implication in a previous episode that these original characters were actually murdered and buried under the house.
Jean also said that the segment will have fun with the differences between the two eras, especially in regard to the voices.
