Talk show host and radio DJ, Wendy Williams, has said that she thinks late singer Aaliyah's family should support the production of a Lifetime biopic about the singer, although her family has made their distaste for the film known.

Aaliyah's cousin, Jomo Hankerson, who is the president of Blackground Records- the record label that released all of her songs- explained that the reason her family was so against Lifetime making the film about Aaliyah was because they felt that her life story was too big to be told on a small screen, and that Lifetime never reached out to her family for help with the production.

But Wendy Williams doesn't agree with Hankerson. Williams has been put on as an executive producer of the film, and she says that, "In my opinion, TV trumps motion picture [...] TV is the way to get your story told."

Originally cast to play Aaliyah was 17-year-old Disney Channel star, Zendaya Coleman, but she dropped out of the project in June, saying that she wasn't "morally okay with moving forward" with the production of the film. Coleman has been replaced by another actress, Alexandra Shipp.

Aaliyah tragically died in 2001 when a plane that was carrying her and eight other passengers from the Bahamas to Miami, suddenly exploded due to engine failure.

The film is still in production, and a release date is still to be announced.

The new season of The Wendy Williams Show will kick off on Monday, September 15th and, true to her word when she said she would "eat crow" if Kim Kardashian and Kanye West got married, the premiere episode for season 6 will have the talk-show host chowing down on a crow.
