If a group of people were to write a list of who they would guess would cameo in the upcoming season of Parks and Recreations, it is hard to imagine many—if anyone—would have prolific writer/director Werner Herzog anywhere on their list. But, sure enough, the German filmmaker is going to find himself on the show's curtain-closing season.
Flavorwire got the scoop from Herzog, who told the Brooklyn Academy of Music that he had recently shot an appearance for the NBC sitcom.
"I play an elderly guy who sells his decrepit house to the young couple who are the leading characters in this, and directly to the camera, I address the audience and I say 'You know, I lived in this home for 47 years. And I decided to move out now and sell this because I'm moving to Orland, Florida, to be close to Disney World,'" Herzog told the crowd. "I've never seen the show, but I hope they kept some of it."
This would not mark the first time that Herzog has made the leap from behind the camera to in front, as he has appeared—either in live action form or animated—in movies and shows like Julian Donkey-Boy, The Simpsons, The Boondocks, Metalocalypse, Jack Reacher, and the upcoming The Penguins of Madagscar, among other German films. But it is still odd that Herzog would not only be approached, but would accept this proposition. Then again, being unusual is Herzog's main style.
Of course, as The A.V. Club cheekily notes, it is unclear if the "young couple" that Herzog is referring to here is Adam Scott and Amy Poehler or Chris Pratt and Aubrey Plaza. It appears that the answer to this question will have to be determined after the new season premieres this fall. It has not been determined when the new season will premiere.
As far as Herzog's work behind the camera goes, his next movie, Queen of the Desert, starring Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson and James Franco, is currently in post-production, and will be coming out sometime either this year or next.
