The chances that we get to Z in A To Z are looking increasingly slim. NBC’s Thursday night romantic comedy found a new bottom last night, meaning that it will probably meet the same fate as the other new romantic comedy of the season.
A To Z fell a whopping 22 percent in the key 18-49 demographic, earning just a 0.7 rating. As Deadline notes, any show that reaches a rating that low is likely to get cancelled sooner rather than later. NBC’s The Michael J. Fox Show reached that low last season and was cancelled, as was ABC’s Lucky 7.
ABC’s Manhattan Love Story also fell that low last week. Just three days after reaching that mark, it was the first show of the season cancelled.
If NBC does cancel A To Z, it will have a hard time justifying keeping Kate Walsh’s Bad Judge alive as well. The show only drew a 0.9 last night.
NBC could keep the show alive and double-up the remaining episodes if it can’t find anything else to put in the 9 p.m. Thursday slot. That’s how ABC is dealing with Manhattan’s vacancy, filling the slot with Selfie (another low-rated show that should get cancelled).
While there was bad news over at NBC, CBS celebrated a decent first Thursday of the season without football. As Entertainment Weekly notes, The McCarthys began its first season with 8.8 million viewers and a 1.9 18-49 rating.
