Get ready for more of your favorite ABC shows this season. The network has just handed out expanded season orders to its hit dramas and comedies.
Easily one of the biggest surprises of the season is ABC’s Wednesday line-up. ABC may have finally perfected a formula for success around Modern Family. Both The Middle and The Goldbergs have done well at the start of the night and are among the shows to receive extra episodes. Modern Family itself will get an expanded season, as will Black-ish.
Black-ish, which stars Anthony Anderson, already received its back nine order, but ABC is so pleased with its success that it has received two more episodes.
As TheWrap notes, the show has miraculously averaged a 2.7 18-49 rating.
Tuesday comedies Selfie and Manhattan Love Story are both struggling to attract viewers and did not receive extra episodes.
On the drama side, Once Upon A Time received an extra episode. The show has been helped out significantly by a Frozen-inspired storyline, averaging a 3.1 rating. Resurrection, which follows OUAT, is staying at 13 episodes this season, notes Deadline.
Castle also got an extra episode, while Grey’s Anatomy received two more. Scandal will remain with 22 episodes, while How To Get Away With Murder has only 15 episodes for its freshman season.
Nashville and Revenge were the dramas left without an expanded order thanks to low ratings. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD likely didn’t get extra episodes because of the high price for producing each episode. Plus, Marvel does have Agent Carter premiering this midseason.
Midseason drama American Crime also picked up an extra episode, expanding to 11.
