As usual, AMC has renewed The Walking Dead early in the TV season. This time, the show got picked up before the new season even started.

The network announced on Tuesday that cable’s most-watched scripted show will be back for a sixth season. Of course, the fifth one has to wrap up first. It starts on Sunday.

AMC has a habit of either renewing Walking Dead before a new season starts or early into the new season. The show got a fifth season only three episodes into season four.

Obviously, there was no question about The Walking Dead’s future. It is easily the most-watched show on cable and even beats scripted shows on the broadcast networks, despite going against NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Clearly, there aren’t many people interested in both football and zombies.

AMC also picked up a companion series last month, which will follow another pack of zombie apocalypse survivors.

The Walking Dead is based on the comic series written by Robert Kirkman. Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Emily Kinney, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira and Lauren Cohan are just a few of the actors who make up the large ensemble cast.
