Obviously, an original idea is not going to cut it for this current TV development season. Just hours after announcing plans for both a Hitch and Frankenstein series, Fox booked a trip to Riverdale.
This new series is named after the town were Archie (yes, the Archie that recently died in one book) and his friends live. According to Deadline, Fox has granted the Warner Bros. TV project a script deal plus penalty. It will be produced with Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and is written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the CCO of Archie Comics.
Riverdale will be set in a modern-day version of the fictional town, with Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and their friends discovering the darkness behind their bubbly lives.
Berlanti knows a thing or two about translating comic books to series television. He works on both The Flash and Arrow for The CW. He is also working on Supergirl for CBS.
Last night, Fox announced plans for a series based on the Will Smith romantic comedy Hitch. It is also developing a Frankenstein-inspired sci-fi crime drama.
