Jan Hooks, who appeared on several seasons of Saturday Night Live, passed away at the age of 57 on Thursday in New York City.

According to sources who spoke exclusively with TMZ, Hooks had been dealing with a serious illness. No cause of death has been revealed yet.
Hooks is best known for working on Saturday Night Live for five years, from 1986 to 1991. During her time on late-night sketch show, she got to appear alongside the likes of Chris Farley, Phil Hartman and Mike Myers.

Despite departing in 1991, Hooks still made appearances for another three seasons, NBC News reports. Her most well-known character would be her half of the Sweeney Sisters, Candy. She also would do impressions of Sinead O'Connor, Hillary Clinton and others.

After she left SNL, her career was relatively quiet as she appeared on Designing Women. She was nominated for her guest appearance on 30 Rock from the Sun and most recently appeared in an episode of NBC's 30 Rock.
