Netflix is about to work with producers from our neighbors to the north and have a major star to headline the project - Jennette McCurdy.

Between will be Netflix’s first Canadian co-production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which first confirmed the news, the six-episode survival thriller will debut on Canada’s City TV network there.

It will be available to stream in all Netflix territories simultaneously. However, initial streaming Canadian rights will be exclusive to Rogers Communications’ Shomi for a year before it finally appears on Netflix Canada.

The series will be the first for executive producer Don Carmody (Chicago). He told THR that he was excited to work with the company that’s home to Orange is the New Black and House of Cards.

“They have been very helpful and supportive in letting the filmmakers make what they want. They haven't been crazy network executives in trying to micro-manage us,” he told the site.

Between was created by Michael McGowan, who will direct with Jon Cassar (The Kennedys). It looks at a government quarantine of a small town, with high shoolers left to survive without adults.

McCurdy is best known for starring in Nickelodeon’s Sam & Cat, which was recently cancelled after a public battle between herself, the network and co-star Ariana Grande. She is currently working on the online series What’s Next For Sarah?.
