Variety reports that the film will also star Judi Dench and Andrew Scott, who plays Cumberbatch's arch-nemesis, Moriarty, in the hit BBC series Sherlock.
It seems that the cast of Sherlock is destined to bring the story of Richard III to life as Martin Freeman, who also stars in the series. He recently wrapped up a theatrical production of Shakespeare's Richard III, where he also played the main character, the mad king.
The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses will not premiere until 2016 but before then you can catch Cumberbatch as a star in the critically acclaimed The Imitation Game, which hits theaters Nov. 21.
