Abbie and Ichabod are at a bar to relax and help Ichabod deal with his anger and frustration over Katrina.
They run into Joe Corbin, the son of Sheriff Corbin. He returned home from serving time in Afghanistan and he blames Abbie for his father’s death. He felt that his dad spent more time with Abbie than him. Later that night, Abbie and Ichabod arrive to Pioneer Point where they find that a group of people were attacked and killed and Joe was the only survivor.
Joe is in the hospital and offers no help to Abbie. He still wants nothing to do with her. While he is in the hospital Abbie and Ichabod try to figure out the creature they saw. Ichabod suggests that Joe could be more than just a victim. They find similarities between the attack on his platoon and what happened at Pioneer Point.
Ichabod recalls a situation he had with Daniel Boone and a curse that affected Boone’s brother. The Curse of the Wendigo is a Native American legend of a skin-walker that has human and bestial attributes and partakes in the act of cannibalism. The creature has a lust for blood and the transformation begins and they can only return to human form after they have consumed human organs. They search Joe’s house and find coordinates left to him by his father. They realize that Joe is searching for something. They find Joe in the woods after he discovered something and he runs away from them. Ichabod cuts his hand and we see Joe transform into the Wendigo. He chases Ichabod while Abbie shoots it.
They capture the Wendigo and Nick and Jenny arrive as they try to figure out what to do. Jenny feeds stolen organs to the Wendigo and he returns to human form. They tell Joe what he truly is. Abbie again offers her help to Joe. Joe reveals that this happened in Afghanistan when he received a letter with a white powder on it. They find out Henry sent the curse because we wants what is in the box that Joe found. The box contains Jenkin, a deadly poison from China and it seems Henry was going to use this for his greater plan.
They are trying to find a cure for Joe to break the curse. If he transforms one more time the curse will be eternal. Nick knows some Shawnee Indians so they go to their shop and try to find some information on the cure. The Shawnee agree to help Ichabod and Nick. Henry finds where Abbie and Joe are hiding and demands to know where the Jenkin is. Henry promises there will be no harm done to Abbie or Jenny if Joe gives them the Jenkin. He gives Henry the Jenkin then goes with him because he has the cure. Henry then cuts him beginning the final transformation and turning him into a creature of war.
Ichabod and Abbie arrive and find out that Joe left with Henry and he took the Jenkin. They can break the curse but it has to be before he kills again. They have a knife that will save him or if they are too late the knife will kill him. Abbie and Ichabod cut their hands to attract the Wendigo.
The Wendigo begins chasing them and they lead him into an alleyway. Ichabod stabs the Wendigo and puts the blood in the skull and reads the words to lift the curse. They find out that they are too late.
Ichabod says they know what they have to do. Joe returns to human form, the curse being lifted. Abbie shows him The Archives or “home base” as she calls it. Joe asks Abbie to write him a letter of recommendation for a job. We see Henry using the Jenkin to create a spider. We see that same spider crawling on Katrina’s bed and crawls into her mouth as the episode ends.
Temptation for Irving’s Soul
Irving confronts Henry demanding to know why he stole his soul. Henry says he can gain his soul back if he takes a life. Irving won’t kill an innocent person, but Henry says it doesn’t have to be an innocent person. In the institution with them is the man who paralyzed Irving’s daughter. Henry says if he kills him his soul will be returned to him. Irving says he won’t kill for vengeance. It appears by the look in his eyes he is very tempted.
Irving talks with the man who paralyzed his daughter. He doesn’t want to kill this man, he wants the man to apologize and to know that he has done wrong. The man keeps taunting Irving and blames her for him being in there. He attacks the man but does not kill him.
He calls Abbie and tells him that Henry owns his soul and that he didn’t kill the man but he wanted to. He is putting all of his trust in Abbie.
Thoughts from tonight’s episode:
-Watching Ichabod and Abbie do yoga was hilarious. The way the show continues to cross historical references and modern day references is outstanding.
-The relationship between Abbie and Joe. It seems that Abbie has always been looking out for Joe since he was young and they were both struggling with the loss of Joe’s father.
-The flirtatious relationship between Jenny and Nick continues. I like Nick so far this season and hope that he is here to stay.
-Watching Ichabod play video games near the end of the episode is one of the funniest moments of the season.
-Next week’s episode looks intense. We could see a huge event take place.
