The season premiere opens with the Winchester’s separated and Sam desperately searching for his brother’s body. In the opening scene, he is shown torturing a demon to find the whereabouts of his brother and Crowley. Even though Dean left a note telling his brother to “let him go,” Sam refuses to give up his search for his brother. He finds a lead and calls trusty angel Castiel for help. Unfortunately, Castiel is weakening due to the fading grace and won’t be much help to Sam.

Meanwhile, even though our beloved Dean may now be a “Deanmon,” he hasn’t seemed to change his personality at all, still enjoying hitting on women and losing himself in a drink. Our first glimpse of the new demon Dean is at a bar while he is singing karaoke (poorly) with his buddy the King of Hell aka Crowley close by.

Of course while all this is going on the angels are trying to piece themselves back together. The angel Hannah shows up at Castiel’s place informing him that the angels have been left leaderless while trying to rebuild and reorganize. Luckily Metatron is still locked away in jail. But Hannah didn’t just stop by to give Cas an update on the rebuilding of Heaven. She asks Cas for help finding two rogue angels. Together the two go off to find the angels, Daniel and Idina, and bring them home and also punish them for killing the previous sent to bring them back to Heaven.

They’re meeting with the two angels doesn’t go as planned. Daniel ends up dying while Idina escapes. Castiel and Hannah are left badly injured from the scuffle.

Meanwhile Sam is following the lead he found. He ends up watching the convenience store’s surveillance video and is surprised to see Dean murdering a demon with the First Blade and sporting a pair of demon eyes himself. He continues his investigation at the convenience store and talks to the cashier that was working that evening. The cashier still has the dead guy’s cell phone which Sam uses to make an angry phone call to Crowley. Sam states in true Winchester fashion that he will save his brother or die trying.

Sam uses his call with Crowley to track his location and on his way there gets ambushed by a man named Cole, who appears to have a grudge against Dean Winchester. He reveals to Sam that he and his brother go way back. Cole is trying to use Sam as bait to get the other Winchester to make a move to free his brother. Unfortunately Dean has his demon side which seems to be in complete control. He states there will be no trade but he does plan on finding and killing Cole. He even says whatever trouble Sam is in now is 100 percent Sam’s problem. Seems there’s no more love between our favorite brothers with Dean having made the journey to a demon.

Cole continues to threaten Dean, saying he will end Sam’s life but Dean doesn’t care. He encourages the man to go through it, saying that Sam knows Dean is a man of his word before hanging up.

With things not going as planned, the episode ends with Cole figuring out his next move.
