The Winchesters are getting some R&R in a rare moment of them sitting by the water with a few beers. Of course, relaxing moments never last long for our boys. After they read a newspaper article about multiple murders they go off to investigate the so called “animal attacks.”

After a talk with the local authorities, and a discovery of missing hearts leads the boys to believe they are looking for a werewolf. They follow a lead to a barn where they find quite the few heartless chickens. And what to the heartless chickens lead them too? The familiar face of Kate, the girl who was left the Winchesters an informative video back in season 8 after she was turned into a werewolf.

So the boys tie her up and while they decide whether or not to kill her she easily cuts through the ropes with her claws and escapes. Luckily for the Winchesters, they have her phone and can track her to the motel she is staying at. The good news is that Dean has her phone and they're able to track her to a motel. The boys are even able to get in a little time to talk to each other. They’re both unsure if they’re ready to be back on the job, with Dean still carrying around that mark of Cain and Sam’s brief trip to the dark side to find his brother.

But they’re conversation is put on hold when they see a girl leaving the motel room. The boys follow who they assume to be Kate out to the woods where they discover it’s another blond werewolf, by the name of Tasha. Turns out Tasha is Kate’s sister. When Tasha escapes the boys and Kate go to hear Kate’s side of the story over coffee.

Kate tells the boys about how she had left everyone behind to start a new life, but when she saw on her sister’s Facebook that she had been in a bad car accident she decided she had to see her. The doctors had no hopes of Tasha making it through her ordeal, and that’s when Kate realized her curse could save Tasha’s life. After turning her sister, the two learn to live off animal hearts. But unfortunately, Tasha gets a taste of a human heart and hasn’t been the same since. Kate wants to take care of it herself if she can’t get the girl to calm down, but we all know it’s not so easy when it comes to family.

But being the fast thinker Dean is, he convinces Kate there is a cure and he can help them both. Sam knows he’s lying but Kate falls for it so they drive to the cabin where Tasha is hiding. On the ride, Kate falls asleep and we finally get to finish that conversation from earlier. Sam confesses about the dark path he was on when he was trying to find his brother and admits that he did hurt a lot of other creatures. But he swears Lester (the crossroads deal from earlier this season) was the only human he harmed. Sam reminds Dean that "I watched you die, and I carried your corpse into your room, and I put your dead body on your bed and then you just… yeah." Dean understands but still had hoped his note would lead his brother to letting it all go.
After our little heart to heart in the Impala, Dean wakes up Kate to make sure they are going the right way to the cabin. Once they arrive, Dean handcuffs her to the steering wheel and the girl realizes there is no cure. In the cabin, Sam finds Tasha and is about to put a bullet in her when Dean comes through the doorway with another man pointing a gun at his head.

Tasha has created her own little wolf pack, having turned two men named Travis and Brandon. She wants her sister to join them, but she has to prove herself by ripping out Sam’s heart. Kate refuses to do it so the two guys take our brothers away to take care of them. Unfortunately, these new monsters haven’t exactly gained the experience to take down the Winchesters and the brothers easily kill them. This leaves Kate to handle her sister.

Tasha is obviously power hungry and Kate sees that her sister is a lost cause. With one last hug she stabs a knife into her sister and flees before the Winchesters can stop her.

Dean still has Kate’s cellphone so she calls them from a truck stop to let them know she’s going to staying on the right path. The boys agree to not look for her as long as she doesn’t harm any innocent people. Once off the phone, Sam questions whether or not they jumped back into hunting too quickly. Maybe they did but Dean tells his brother, "I am just trying to do the right thing, man, because I'm so sick and tired of doing the wrong one.”
