This episode starts with Sam picking up a cooler of purified human blood. The plan is simple: pump Dean with enough human blood that he switches back to one. Each injection causes Dean great physical pain and Sam is worried that he may be doing more harm than good for his older brother. Sam calls Cas and tells him he’s worried that he could be killing his brother. Cas, however, tells him it’s their only option and that he should continue on before hanging up.

So Sam continues injecting Dean with blood and the irritated “Deanmon” starts going on about those Winchesters and whatever happened to them. He goes on to say one turned into a demon and another is a monster all his own. We enter a flashback where we learn that the man Dean killed last week, Lester, was lured into a crossroad deal by Sam. Sam met Lester at a bar and listened to the man’s story before giving him his options for revenge. Sam used the man as bait to get his hands on a demon and try to pry information on Crowley. Unfortunately, the demon knew nothing and Lester lost his soul for nothing. Dean tells Sam that the line between them and things they hunt ain’t so clear anymore.

Castiel and Hannah are on their way to the bunker to help Sam with the Dean problem when they are attacked by Adina, who’s still upset over the killing of Daniel earlier in the season. It looks like it’s the end of the road for these two angels when Crowley shows up and steals Adina’s grace to give to Cas. Now Cas will be able to take care of their little demon Dean issue which is exactly what Crowley wants, and the only reason he helped Cas with his fading grace at all.

At the bunker, Sam is still injecting Dean with human blood all the while Dean is taunting him. He even goes as far as to say that their mom’s death was his fault and his life would have been a whole lot better if Sam had never been born. Of course, Sam doesn’t listen to his brother, knowing that it’s the demon talking and not Dean.

After one final injection, Sam takes a break and a quick stroll to Dean’s room, presumably for a walk down memory lane. After glancing at photos of their family, Sam returns to the dungeon to find Dean has escaped. Turns out all the human blood made him just human enough that the demon cuffs and demon trap couldn’t hold him. Of course, this doesn’t mean that he’s not demon enough to still want to try and kill his brother.

After a game of hide and seek with his brother, Castiel shows up and manages to subdue Dean so they can finish the injections. When Dean wakes up, they splash him with holy water and he doesn’t even flinch. Sam and Cas look happy to finally have Dean back to normal but is it just me or does Dean look less than thrilled?

Sam leaves Cas in charge as he runs out to get his brother a giant bag of burgers. Cas goes to have a heart to heart with Dean in his room, letting him know the Winchesters lead strange lives and the two of them will be able to get past the whole “tried to kill your brother” thing. Cas tells him that he should take this time to get some rest since “it’s quiet out there.”

But we are made aware that this is definitely not the case when we cut to Oklahoma where a redhead woman sits peacefully in a room where two people are nailed to the ceiling. We can only wonder when the Winchesters will run into this new threat.
