The final week of the blind auditions kicked off tonight, and each coach had only two spots left on their team to fill.
It all came down to who Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine wanted and which performances could get their chairs to turn.
Matt McAndrew took to the Voice stage performing Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years.” The first coach to turn around was Levine, closely followed by Shelton and Williams. Levine said that he was impressed when he turned around for McAndrew and that he felt a genuine impression from him. Williams added that McAndrew had a tone to his musical performance that was very impressive and that he could pick the songs that he wanted to perform. Shelton said, in the end that, he was a true solo artist and understood him in that regard. After much deliberation, he ended up becoming the second to last member of Team Adam.
Following McAndrew was Brittany Butler. Stefani was the first to turn around for Butler followed closely by Williams. This was the first time that Stefani and Williams had to fight it out for a contestant. Stefani started off the comments by saying that she really felt that Butler had the whole package as an artist. Williams said that he could really use someone on his team that he could collaborate with. In the end, she decided to become a member of Team Pharrell.
Evan Watson was the next to audition for The Voice. He put his own unique spin on ""The Band"" and even with an impressive and heartfelt performance, none of the four coaches turned around.
Next up was Ryan Sill. Sill put his own unique spin on “Secrets,” originally performed by OneRepublic. Stefani was the first to turn around, followed by Shelton. Shelton started off the comments by saying that Sill was one of the first artists to look like he sounds. Stefani added that there are a few things that she could work on with him and that she turned around first. After a few moments of deliberation, Sill decided to join Team Gwen.
Fernanda Bosch took to the stage to perform “I Try.” Stefani and Shelton both turned around for the 17-year-old pop singer. Shelton started off the comments by saying that he really felt the connection musically but Stefani added that she could relate to Bosch musically at that age. Shelton closed out the comments by saying that if she wanted to win, she could join his team. Bosch decided to join Team Blake.
Following Bosch was Beth Spangler. Spangler performed Beyonce’s “Best Thing I Never Had.” Shelton and Levine were the first to turn their chairs around, followed by Williams and Stefani towards the end of the audition, making this the first four-chair turn for the night. This left all four coaches to fight it out. Each coach had an impressive pitch but in the end she decided to join Team Adam.
Following Spangler was Erin Kim. Kim put his own unique spin on “Latch.” Even with a passionate and unique performance, none of the judges turned around for Kim. Stefani added that he changed the melody too much in regards to that audition song. Levine added that he would like Kim to come back and try again.
One of the last few artists to audition was Griffin, from South Carolina. His performance got Shelton, Stefani, and Williams, the three remaining coaches with spots left on their team, to turn around. The battle was intense between the coaches on how to make Griffin a better artist and, in the end, he decided to become a member of Team Pharrell, making him the last member of Team Pharrell.
Chandra Knudsen was up next to the blind audition stage. She performed, “Hard to Love.” Despite a unique and interesting take on Lee Brice’s single, none of the four coaches turned around.
With only two spots left, Mayra Alvarez took to the Voice stage. About halfway through the audition, Stefani turned around and was closely followed by Shelton. With only one spot left on each of the coaches’ teams, it was up to Alvarez to pick which team she wanted and she became the last member of Team Gwen.
The final audition of the night went to Justin Johnes. Johnes performed “Let Her Go” and became the last member of Team Blake.
Tomorrow night, The Voice will recap the blind auditions and next week the battle rounds will begin on NBC.
