The Intro

This episode, titled “The Boys of Sudworth Place,” begins with a scene in the courtroom. Defense lawyer Jack Westbrook is defending a teenage gang member on trial for gang-related activity. He gets the boy off with community service when the prosecution was calling for jail time.

The Case

After the trial, Westbrook comes out to his car to find a man standing on top of his car, beating it with a baseball bat. He immediately calls 911, and they send cops to the scene. However, he follows the offender into a nearby alley, still on the phone with 911, and he is kidnapped before the cops can arrive on the scene.

The team is dealing with an abduction. And, they decipher from the audio recording of the 911 call that the kidnapping was done in a pair.

However, they are not sure why Westbrook was targeted, because seemingly has a perfect life. He wins nearly all of his cases, he is married and he and his wife are expected a baby. At first, the team suspects the kidnappers may be someone from his early career prosecuting criminals, before he made the switch to a defense lawyer.

The Victim

Upon further investigation, the team discovers Westbrook isn’t so innocent. They discover that he has been wiring money to pay for an apartment downtown for many years. At first, they think he is having an affair, but then they investigate the apartment and find something disturbing.

Westbrook has pictures of child pornagraphy hidden in his drawer. The team has enough evidence to label him a pedophile. Then, they discover he had been a volunteer at Sudworth Place, a local halfway house for children, and he had been for years. They believe he found his victims here, and then lured them back to his apartment downtown to complete his acts.

The Unsubs

The team rules that the kidnappers were likely previous victims of Westbrook’s, and this was their way of getting revenge. Garcia researches all the boys who Westbrook came into contact with at Sudworth Place, trying to find a connection. She discovers that Matthew Jones, one of the boys he had contact with, had committed suicide, and the funeral had been the same day as the kidnapping. They found three boys who had close relations with Matt, and they had kept contact with him into their adulthood. Two of the boys had tweeted about wanting justice and revenge.

Upon investigation of the third boy’s apartment, they discovered Brian, too, had a secret. He had picked up the molestation where Westbrook had left off. He kept polaroids of his victims as well as their underwear. The team determined that his friends didn’t know about his secret.

The Torture

Chad and Andrew were the ones to kidnap Westbrook. Once they had him placed in the warehouse in a torture pit, they called in Brian. He had no idea what his friends were up to, but he played along. The goal was to get a confession out of Westbrook, so they could have justice for Matt. But, an altercation between a drunk Chad and Brain leads to Chad falling to his death in the hole. This is when the boys freak out, because no one was supposed to die.

While Andrew is away getting supplies to burn the building down, Westbrook promises to go to the cops and explain the situation if Brian lets him out of the hole. So, Brian agrees. However, once he is out, Westbrook informs Brian that he knows about his “keepsakes” in his apartment. He tells Brian to go get rid of the evidence while he goes to the cops. Brian doesn’t like Westbrook knowing this information, so he kills him.

Andrew comes back to find Westbrook dead, and the blood on Brian’s hands. They agree to burn the building and flee the scene.

The Arrest

The team discovers that Andrew and Chad have been renting a warehouse in town, and they believe this is where they are keeping Westbrook. When they arrive there, the boys have already set fire to the building and are fleeing. Andrew points the gun at the officers, while Morgan tries to talk them down.

He admits that he was molested as a child, too. He promises that Andrew will get the confession that he has been wanting if he puts the gun down. He is referring to Brian’s confession. They arrest both boys, and they tell Brian that he is under arrest for molestation.

A Foreshadowing Ending

On the plane home, Callahan and Morgan discuss his past. Callahan admits that she worries about Meg, her adoptive daughter, in such an evil world. Morgan says she will be fine, because she has Callahan to look after her.

However, it flashes to Meg and her friend talking to men over the internet. He claims to be a senior, and he sends a picture of himself to the girls, requesting one from them. They send one together, and then it shows the man behind the screen. He isn’t a teenager, but a grown adult.

Next WeekThe team will investigate a string of murders from an unsub who has a lot of rage, yet a lot of remorse as well. Rossi will also be confronted by a woman from his past. Photo courtesy of INF Photo
