While Alex Rodriguez has publicly denied using steroids in recent years, but he reportedly did admit to it when interviewed by the Drug Enforcement Agency in January.
The Miami Herald obtained a 15-page synopsis of a meeting the New York Yankees third baseman had with federal agents on Jan. 29, 2014.
During that meeting, A-Rod reportedly admitted that he paid around $12,000 a month to obtain performance-enhancing drugs from fake doctor Anthony Bosch’s Biogenesis of America clinic. He said that Bosch did give him pre-filled syringes for hormone injections and his cousin, Yuri Sucart, was his middle man to obtain the drugs.
Frank Quintero Jr., an attorney currently representing former University of Miami pitching coach Lazaro Collazo, confirmed to the Associated Press that Rodriguez did admit to steroid use during the meeting with DEA agents. Collazo is currently facing a charge for conspiracy to distribute PEDs.
Rodriguez just finished serving a 162-game suspension for PED use. It was originally a 211-game suspension, but this was lowered on Jan. 11. Even then, Rodriguez issued a statement denying using PEDs. Just 18 days later, he had his meeting with the DEA.
“Rodriguez injected the HGH into his stomach,” the DEA report obtained by the Herald reads. “Rodriguez said Bosch told him the HGH would help with sleep, weight, hair growth, eyesight and muscle recovery.”
Rodriguez, 39, helped the Yankees win the 2009 World Series and is set to return to the team for the 2015 season. He still has three years left on his historic $271 million contract with the team.
Rodriguez and his reps have not responded to the Herald report.
