Bono just can’t catch a break lately. The U2 frontman had to undergo five hours of surgery after the bad accident he got in while riding a bike in New York’s Central Park on Sunday.
Orthopedic trauma surgeon Dr. Dean Lorich from New York Presbyterian hospital confirmed Bono, 54, will need “intensive and progressive therapy” to recover from the incident.
"[Bono] was taken emergently to the operating room...where the elbow was washed out and debrided, a nerve trapped in the break was moved and the bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws,” Dr. Lorch told Rolling Stone.
Bono was trying to avoid colliding into another cyclist over the weekend when he crashed and broke multiple bones, including one in his face. He also fractured his pinky finger, which he underwent a separate surgery for on Monday.
As we previously reported, Bono’s injury became known when the band had to cancel a week-long residency on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, although the details or severity of the accident were not made public until now.
