There’s mixed news for fans of NBC’s new supernatural drama Constantine this morning.
First, the bad news. Constantine isn’t getting a full freshman season. Deadline reported late Sunday that NBC has told the production staff that they aren’t going to need to make any more shows beyond episode 13. It will finish out its freshman run at 10 p.m. on Fridays.
However, there is some good news. Unlike NBC’s new sitcoms, which were cancelled but finished filming 13 episodes, Constantine is still alive. At the end of the current TV season, NBC could still put in a season two order.
Constantine hasn’t been doing as well as its lead-in, Grimm. As TV By The Numbers points out, the show’s latest episode only had a 1.1 18-49 rating. That’s actually up from the previous week’s show, which only had a 0.8.
NBC has been supporting Constantine, despite the low ratings. SyFy recently aired a marathon, while the show’s stars will appear during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast.
NBC has ordered a third season of Hannibal, which could replace Constantine for the rest of the season. Allegiance, Odyssey and Aquarius are dramas the peacock held back for midseason as well.
So far, the only new show from NBC to earn a full season is The Mysteries of Laura, although it did order more episodes of sitcom Marry Me.
