Even as a petition to cancel their TLC show nears its 100,000-signature goal, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are defending their faith.
Earlier this week, a Change.org petition by Jim Wissick of San Jose, California called on TLC to cancel 19 Kids and Counting because of the Duggars’ anti-LGBT stance. He cited the couple’s donations to Fayetteville, Arkansas candidates who opposed a city ordinance to ban businesses from firing someone based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
After gaining traction on the web, the petition is now up to 98,500 signatures, just shy of Wissick’s goal of 100,000.
While TLC still hasn’t commented on the petition and the Duggar’s didn’t directly reference it, they posted a message on Facebook Tuesday, showing that they will not waver from their faith and beliefs. The statement included a quote from Martin Luther, which reads “God created the world out of nothing, and as long as we are nothing, He can make something out of us.”
“These words are such a good reminder to stay humble and never think too highly of oneself,” the family wrote. “We want to maintain a heart posture that allows God to use us any way He would like.”
The Duggars’ position on homosexuality was under a microscope again last week, when a blogger claimed they deleted a picture of him kissing his partner. Jim Bob and Michelle had asked their fans to post pictures of couples kissing after they did the same.
