Former major league baseball pitcher Brad Halsey died in a recreational climbing accident last week. He was 33.

Halsey’s agency confirmed the sad news via Twitter on Tuesday evening.

USA Today noted that the former pitcher died near his New Braunfels home in Texas on Friday.

The Comal County Sheriff's Office is investigating his death and will release further details upon the competition of that investigation.

Halsey was selected by the New York Yankees in the 2002 MLB Draft. He went 14-19 with a 4.84 ERA in 88 games for the Bronx Bombers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Oakland Athletics.

He was the starting pitcher on the mound the day Derek Jeter made several highlight reels by going into the stands against the Boston Red Sox. He also gave up the 714th home run of Barry Bonds' career when the slugger tied Babe Ruth’s record.

The left-hander last pitched in the majors in 2006 and in the minors for the Yankees organization in 2011.
