After weeks of promoting the show, Fox has finally scheduled the premiere for Empire, a new show from The Butler team Lee Daniels and Danny Strong.

The series, which Fox ordered straight to series back in May, stars Terrence Howard as the head of the titular record label, who struggles to manage his business and his family. Empire’s cast is also headlined by Taraji P. Henson, Gabourey Sidibe and Rafael de la Fuente.

Daniels (The Butler, Precious) directed the pilot, while Strong (Game Change) wrote the script.

The series will start on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 9 p.m. following the start of the lasted American Idol season. Fox says that the show will feature limited commercial interruptions.

It’s worth noting that the Octavia Spencer-starring series Red Band Society currently has the Wednesday 9 p.m. slot. Fox hasn’t made a decision on the show’s future, since it has earned soft ratings. The network has not ordered additional episodes beyond its initial 13-episode order.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox still hasn’t scheduled Backstrom, Bordertown, The Last Man on Earth, Weird Loners and Wayward Pines. Glee’s final season is also supposed to start this midseason.
