Whatever went down between Taylor Swift and Harry Styles must not have been a knock-down-drag-out break-up, because Swift didn’t write any dis songs about the One Direction singer on her new album.
However, she did write some songs about him.
In her Rolling Stone profile, the pop crooner never directly admits that the not so subtle songs, like “Style” and “All You Had to Do Was Stay,” are about Styles. But, does it get any more obvious that “Style?”
The boy band member doesn't have anything to worry about, though. Swift describes the songs as “wistful and nostalgic, not finger-pointy or score-settling.”
This is a change for the pop star, who usually uses her album to draw attention to an ex who did her wrong. It seems Styles was the perfect gentlemen. And, by the sounds of his comments about Swift’s music, that may be a safe assumption.
MTV reports that Styles refers to himself as “lucky” that Swift chose to write about him, saying he thinks the tracks are “really good” songs.
During a Google Hangout session with director Ben Winston, Styles was asked how he reacts to being written about.
“We write from personal experience, and I think everyone does, so it would be hypocritical of us to be like, ‘Oh you can’t write about us,’” Styles said.
Even though Swift switched up her style (no pun intended) with her latest album by leaving off the dis tunes, it hasn’t affected her sales at all.
Billboard reports that 1989 sold 1.287 million copies in its first week. This makes 1989 the album with the highest sales since 2002.
