Hilary Duff has a new album, new television show, and a beautiful son, but confesses that the past few years have been an emotional time in her life.
The 27-year-old mother welcomed her first child 2 and a half years ago and she admits in an interview with Health magazine that it wasn’t easy shedding the baby weight, especially with the tabloid’s pressuring her. “Oh my God, everyone was so hard on me because it took me a year and a half to get my body back!,” the 5’2 star said. “When I was 17, I weighed, like, 98 pounds. I was totally obsessed with everything I put in my mouth. I was way too skinny. Not cute. And my body wasn't that healthy, my hands would cramp up a lot because I wasn't getting the nutrition I needed. That constant pressure of wanting something different than I had? I regret that.”
Duff confessed that kickboxing helped her get back into shape but she said that time off allowed her to do some "soul searching." The former Disney Channel star said, "I have found that since I had Luca and took a substantial time off, it really helped me. Before, I would make a record and be working on a movie and then do a tour, so I didn't have time to sit and breathe and just be comfortable with me. I got a broken heart during that time, and I had to do a lot of soul-searching. It was rough. It was an emotional two years.”
Since announcing her split from her husband Mike Comrie, the couple has proved that exes can remain friends. The parents of 2-year-old Luca have remained on good terms and have not filed any divorce papers. Duff admitted in the interview that separating wasn’t “a rash decision” and the pair is “trying to figure out how we are the most happy, whether together or apart.”
Duff is currently working on her upcoming album and is filming a television show in New York City called Younger, set to air in January on TV Land.
