Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s kids, Jaden and Willow Smith, gave a bizarre interview, during which they discussed their ability to control time and the fact that going to school makes teens depressed.
Jaden, 16, and Willow, 14, told New York Times magazine they both agreed that the regular school experience was the wrong way to go for education.
“I went to school for one year. It was the best experience but the worst experience. The best experience because I was, like, ‘Oh, now I know why kids are so depressed.’ But it was the worst experience because I was depressed,” Willow said, with Jaden adding those who go to school are so “teenagery, so angsty.”
“School is not authentic because it ends. It’s not true, it’s not real. Our learning will never end,” he said. “You never learn anything in school. Think about how many car accidents happen every day. Driver’s ed? What’s up?”
They went on to discuss their music, what they’re reading – for Willow it’s “Quantum physics” and for Jaden it’s “ancient texts” – and how they choose to create everything in their worlds.
“There’re no novels that I like to read so I write my own novels,” Willow said. Jaden also said of music, “We don’t think a lot of the music out there is that cool. So we make our own music.”
Perhaps the most interesting part of the interview is the siblings talking about their concept of time, Daily News reports.
“I can make it go slow or fast, however I please, and that’s how I know it doesn’t exist,” Willow explained.
“If you are aware in a moment, one second can last a year. And if you are unaware, your whole childhood, your whole life can pass by in six seconds. But it’s also such a thing that you can get lost in,” Jaden added.
