Joan Collins is speaking candidly about being raped at the age of 17, which left her wary to trust men for years after the incident.
The former Dynasty star, now 81, revealed she was still a virgin when she was drugged and raped by her husband Maxwell Reed. She felt obligated to later marry him because he took her virginity, though she barely knew him at the time.
“The next thing I knew, I was out flat on the sofa in that living room and he was raping me,” she said, explaining he fed her rum and provided her with pornographic material.
“What he had given me was a drug. He had drugged my drink. It wasn’t my fault but I didn’t know, I went out with him.” She revealed she thought, “Well I better [marry him] because you know, he took my virginity.”
Collins spoke openly about the incident in the documentary Brave New World, though she did write about it in her autobiography, Daily News reports.
Collins was married to Reed for a total of four years, Fox News reports. She went on to marry five more men.
“I really hated him, but I was so filled with guilt, that he had done this thing to me,” she also said.
